(9-11-2001)

As I contemplated this day that happened 20 years ago, I decided I wanted to share with you my thoughts that I wrote in my journal almost 20 years ago.  I had 3 children at the time, one being a 3 month old. This is what I wrote in 2002 about that event.  I can't believe how fast time flies.  On Sept. 11, 2001 one of the most terrible things that I have witnessed happened.  Some terrists hi-jacked a few planes. Two planes crashed into the Twin Towers, the World Trade centers in New York , one crashed into the Pentagon in Washington DC and one crashed into a field. They said this plane was possibly going to the White House or some other place but the passengers, when they heard about the other crashes decided to take over the plane, so it went down in a field.

This day started out as usual in my house.  I was babysitting at the time and all the children I was watching were playing in my backyard having a good time.  My Husband called me around 10 o'clock, he asked me if I had turned on the TV yet. I told him no, he said turn it on,  an airplane hit one of the twin towers.  When I turned i t on it seemed like a horrible movie.  By that time both towers had been hit. The news played it over and over. The airplanes flew right into the buildings.  Then when the fire and rescue teams were helping people get out of the building, the buildings collapsed.  Thousands of people were trapped and killed that day.

All I could do was sit in horror watching the TV, not knowing if something else was going to happen.  It was horrible to think "What is our world coming to". The airport shut down for a few days. When they opened back up there were a bunch of restrictions.  Our freedom was taken from us. Our freedom to not fear, our freedom to fly, our freedom to trust our neighbors.  Our freedom to go anywhere in the world.  It was a very sad day for our country.

Our Prophet, President Hinckley told us that this was the start of things to come.  He said as long as we are living right we have no need to fear.  The next day our country came together.  Whether we believe in God or not we would see signs everywhere  saying "In God we trust".  "God bless America" It was so wonderful to see that in this terrible time our country turned to our all mighty Creator GOD!  He is our only hope for survival.  Instead of putting blame to him we turned to him for comfort in this time of need.  It was a time of pride for what America stands for!!

As I look back on this day and contemplate how the world is right now, I know that what President Hinckley said, that day was a start to what was to come.  Now we have something else we are dealing with, COVID, masks, vaccinations. How are we dealing with people.  I'm afraid our world is not turning to God and asking for his help.  This reminded me of a song called "How Firm a Foundation Attr. to Robert Keen He wrote in verse 3

Fear not, I am with thee; oh, be not dismayed,

For I am thy God and will still give thee aid.

I’ll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,

Upheld by my righteous, upheld by my righteous,

Upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.

I want to remember that day 20 years ago as a day that our country knew we needed to turn to God.  He can help us love a person whether or not they were vaccinated.  Whether or not they wear a mask.  He can help us look at people as children of God no matter the color of their skin.  That day I saw Americans no matter their nationality.  I saw America being attacked and it affected me to the center of my heart.  Today I still look at people as Americans no matter their nationality.  We need all Americans to open their hearts and see people for what they are, Children of God!

I'll talk to you next week.
