Weight loss during a Pandemic
I'm back and stronger than ever-
Something I've learned in the last year is with every problem there is a blessing. I've been told my whole life that there is opposition in all things. We read about opposition in the scriptures but do we really understand what that means. I recently started reading a book called Confidence Rising by Marnie Pehrson Kuhns (https://www.amazon.com/Confidence-Rising-Heart-Yourself-Lives-ebook/dp/B07G6BSKBV) stated in her book something that really helped me understand this. "Opposition is inevitable as we go through life- especially as we set out to fully be ourselves and bless lives. I've heard some people say they must have chosen the wrong path because they're meeting so much opposition. Most of the time, for me, life has been the opposite. If you've done something significant, opposition is inevitable. In fact, the more opposition I receive, the more I deduce that I'm on the right track for something big."
She goes on to say " opposition can look like other people getting in the way of your goals, things not working as planned, running into roadblocks, criticism, our own negative thoughts and feelings, or health challenges."
These words rang so true for me especially this last year. Covid threw me into a I don't care mode. I was talking to a friend about why many of our students are doing so much worse on their grades. Covid at least for me and I am assuming for our students and other people out their has created this mentality of why should I care about anything, it will just be taken away from me. Schools were shut down, things have happened in this world that I for one never dreamed would happen. Sports were delayed, sports were cancelled. Really think about it why should kids care about the important things, when the things they love to do are being taken from them. They just want life back to normal, the old normal and they want to go to dances, they want to play sports, they want to see their friends, they want to be with their friends. They want to be in school, they want life back and then maybe they will start to care again. I thought a lot about this.
Covid didn't make me not care about losing weight. Covid could not have that impact on my life unless I let it. My thoughts about Covid and what it was doing to my career, to my students and to my children that need their friends, that is what put a standstill to my weight loss journey. Only me and my thoughts can cause a pause in my goals I want to accomplish.
Now back to opposition. Covid was the opposition, what I thought about covid was my opposition. I kept telling myself, Something really good is coming around the corner when I learn the lesson I need to learn. Reading "Confidence Rising" has reminded me that with opposition, I can learn so many great things. I need to focus on the real issue at hand.
The Lord will help make weak things become strong. My weakness is food, my weakness is negative thoughts I have about myself. I have other weaknesses but for now I am focusing on these two. Negative thoughts are a big dilemma for a lot of people. I would say that most people find something they don't like about themselves. These thoughts do not serve me or you. That is an opposition in our life that we need to get rid of. Every time I get feeling good about something I am doing a negative thought creeps in. I should be so proud of myself this past year, I completed my masters, I completed a tri-Athlon. I figured out how to teach students reading with distant learning. There are many other things I did right this year, and yet I seem to focus on gaining back 40 lbs I lost before Covid. I think we always ask ourselves why, why do we focus on the one bad thing instead of the 10 good things we do in life. Really the answer is we are human. We think of ways to keep us humble. Our brain knows we need opposition in all things to become better. The Lord knows we need to be humble to be teachable. So take that one things you need to work on and make it better. Let the Lord teach you and guide you to be a better person than you were before. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Gratitude is a key contributor to help you change the way you think about yourself and about your life. You can find gratitude in all things. Use gratitude to help shape your life to be the way you want it to be. Use gratitude to help you shape your body to be what you want it to be. So here are some of the things I'm grateful for.
1. I'm grateful for legs that carry my body every morning when I walk.
2. I'm grateful for a heart that loves everyone I see everyday.
3. I'm grateful for a Heavenly Father that knows what I need at the moment I need it. I've had a lot of books come into my life these past few months, that are helping me know what my path should be in this journey called life.
I hope everyone can find joy in the journey. Make 2021 the best year ever. We can decide now to have the best year ever no matter what happens to us in this world. Decide now to be happy, decide now to beat your oppositions. Decide now to be what you want to be and write it down.
